Whistlepipe Gully — A Dog-Friendly Trail Worth Chasing in the Perth Hills

There’s something special about finding a trail that ticks every box — scenic, peaceful, family-friendly, and perfect for dogs. Whistlepipe Gully in Forrestfield delivered all that and more. It’s easily one of the best walks we’ve done so far with our dog, and it’s a reminder of just how lucky we are to have places like this right on Perth’s doorstep.

We headed out on a mild morning — just me, my partner, my son, and of course our four-legged sidekick — ready for a bit of adventure. From the moment we stepped onto the trail, it felt like we’d stumbled into a little pocket of magic. The path is well maintained, winding alongside a bubbling creek that tumbles down through the gully. Birds darted between the trees, wildflowers lined the edge of the track, and the sound of running water followed us all the way.

The waterfalls were the highlight of the day — flowing strong and sparkling in the sunlight. Our dog couldn’t resist a quick splash in the shallows while my son explored the rocks nearby. It’s the kind of place that slows you down, makes you breathe a little deeper, and just enjoy being outdoors together.

The walk itself is about 3.5 km return, making it an easy loop for families and dogs alike. There are a few steeper slopes, but nothing too challenging — just enough to get the legs working. The track follows both sides of the gully, so you’re treated to fresh views the whole way.

A few tips before you go:

🐾 Dogs are welcome but must stay on a lead — there’s plenty of wildlife about.

💦 Visit after rain for the best waterfall views (but be cautious of slippery rocks).

☀️ Early mornings or late afternoons are the most peaceful times to go.

🚗 Parking is available at the end of Lewis Road, Forrestfield — it can fill up quickly on weekends.

⚠️ Check conditions before you visit, as weather, controlled burns, or fire warnings can affect trail access.

We wrapped up the walk feeling tired in the best way — muddy paws, big smiles, and that calm satisfaction you only get from a day well spent in nature. Whistlepipe Gully is a trail I’d happily do again and again.

If you’re looking for a dog-friendly Perth adventure with waterfalls, wildlife, and a peaceful bushland backdrop, this one’s a must. 🐾🐾
